140 cyclists have met today in the second edition of the cycling sports event ‘El Salt de Tramuntana’, which has been held in the municipality of Selva. A magnificent day of cycling in which the participants have enjoyed sunny weather and in which they have been able to enjoy in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana a closed circuit to traffic that includes the ascent to the Coll de sa Batalla.
The event has offered the participants the possibility of choosing between two distances: one of 85.6 kilometres, which involved four laps of a closed circuit with start and finish in Selva and ascent to the Coll de sa Batalla, and another of 44.8 (two laps of said circuit). In the longest race, the male winner was Pere Amengual Estarellas, with a time of 2h34’35”, one second ahead of last year’s winner, Gastón Montenegro, while Anuchi Gago won among the women, with a time of 3h01’02”. As for the shortest race, the first to cross the finish line were Lluis Borrás in the men’s race, with a time of 1h16’02” and Antònia Siquier in the women’s race, with a time of 1h30’06”.
This new event in the cycling calendar of Mallorca, which has the institutional collaboration of the Selva City Council, the Consorci Serra de Tramuntana Mallorca, as well as the Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Conselleria de Turisme i Esports, and the Som Tramuntana Merchants Association, aims to boost the economy of the area and promote the natural area of the Serra as a privileged environment for the practice of a sport that respects the environment such as cycling.
At the end of the test, the awards ceremony took place, which was attended by the mayor of Selva, Joan Rotger; the director of the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, Toni Solivellas; the councilor of Selva, Manuel Barredo and the president of the Som Tramuntana Merchants Association, Isabel Munar, among other authorities.
