
More than a hundred cyclists gathered today for the first edition of the ‘El Salt de Tramuntana’ cycle sports event, which was hosted by the municipality of Selva. A magnificent day of cycling in which the participants enjoyed sunny weather and in which they were able to enjoy a closed-to-traffic circuit in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana that included the ascent to Coll de sa Batalla.
The test offered participants the possibility of choosing between two distances: one of 85.6 kilometers, which involved doing four laps of a closed circuit starting and finishing in Selva and ascending to Coll de sa Batalla, and another of 44.8 kilometers. (two laps of said circuit). In the longest race, the male winner was Gastón Montenegro, with a time of 2h37’08”, while the Lithuanian resident in Ibiza Indre Barkute won among the women, with a time of 3h27’09”. Regarding the shortest test, the first to cross the finish line were Adrià Barceló in men, with a time of 1h18’21” and Catalina Vives in girls, with a time of 2h06’45”.

This new event in the cycling calendar of Mallorca, which has the institutional collaboration of the Selva City Council and the Consell de Mallorca, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme and the Tramuntana Mallorca Consortium, as well as the Government of the Balearic Islands, Through the AETIB and the financing of the Recovery Plan and the ‘Next Generation EU’ Funds, it was born with the objective of boosting the economy of the area and promoting the natural area of the Serra as a privileged environment for the practice of a sport that respects the environment. environment such as cycling.

At the end of the test, the awards ceremony took place, which was attended by the mayor of Selva, Joan Rotger; the insular director of Crafts of the Consell de Mallorca, Pere Ferrer; the insular director of Tourism for Governança and Sustainability of the Consell, Pedro Mas; the president of the Balearic Islands Cycling Federation, Tonis Bauzà, and the president of the Som Tramuntana Merchants Association, Isabel Munar, among other authorities.
