Selva Town Hall was today the setting for the presentation of the second edition of our race, which will be held on Sunday 29 September. A race in which the runners will be able to choose between two distances to cover: one of 85.6 kilometres, which involves four laps of a closed circuit with start and finish in Selva and ascent to Coll de sa Batalla, and another of 44.8 (two laps of said circuit).
The event was attended by the mayor of Selva, Joan Rotger, the general director of Sports of the Government, Joan Antoni Ramonell, Isabel Munar, president of the Association of Traders ‘Som Tramuntana’, and Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting, the company that organises the event.
Joan Rotger, Mayor of Selva, wanted to highlight “the importance of this sporting event that makes cycling even more known not only among residents, but also among an international public, who appreciate the practice of this sport in a natural environment such as the Serra de Tramuntana, UNESCO Cultural Heritage” and also thanked the important collaboration of the Associació Som Tramuntana.
For his part, Joan Antoni Ramonell has highlighted the importance of promoting and publicising this type of event. “The Balearic Islands are a great open-air playing field as demonstrated by this new edition of the Salt de Tramuntana”. In this sense, the Director General of Sports has recalled that “sport and sustainability go hand in hand in events such as this, in addition to becoming an attraction for quality tourism, committed to the environment and which helps us to de-seasonalise and promote the lesser-known places on our Islands”.
Manuel Hernández, the director of the event, explained that the event offers “something different to cycling fans, a demanding event, with the added attraction of climbing the Coll de sa Batalla, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana and with all the safety of a professional event because it is done on a circuit closed to traffic.”
Participants will receive a commemorative jersey for the race, as well as discount vouchers in the restaurants participating in the event. In addition, the organization will establish two refreshment points, one at the top of the Coll de Sa Batalla and another at the finish line for all participating runners. The Plaça Major de Selva will be the starting point of the race, on Sunday 29 September, starting at 8:30 a.m.
