The Plaça Major de Selva has been the setting for the presentation of a new cycling event to be held on March 18. A new appointment in the Mallorca cycling calendar with which the Selva Town Hall and the Mallorca Council, through the Tramuntana Mallorca Consortium, want to boost the economy of the area before the arrival of spring. The new proposal for all pedal lovers consists of doing the greatest number of laps on a closed circuit between Selva, Caimari and the Coll de sa Batalla of 21.4 kilometers for 3.5 hours.
During the presentation, Joan Rotger, mayor of Selva, explained that the name of the test “arises from joining the name of the Salt de la Bella Dona on the one hand and the Serra de Tramuntana on the other, hence El Salt de Tramuntana” and that the main objective is “to promote our local commerce, our hotel, gastronomic and commercial offer” in the middle of the winter season. For his part, Miquel Vadell, insular director of Territori i Paisatge, stressed that this is a test “that is organized from the Serra de Tramuntana for the direct benefit of the Serra de Tramuntana.” The event was also attended by Manuel José Barredo, councilor of Selva, Isabel Munar, president of the Som Tramuntana merchants association, Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting, the company that will organize the event, and Pep Bernales, from the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, in addition to representatives of the trade and sport of Selva.
Registration to participate in the race is now open and participants will receive a commemorative jersey of the race, as well as discount vouchers in the restaurants participating in the event. In addition, the organization will establish two refreshment points, one at the top of Coll de Sa Batalla and another at the finish line for all participating runners. The Plaça Major de Selva will be the starting point of the race, on Saturday, March 18, starting at 9:30 a.m., and it is also planned that one day before, on Friday, March 17, a welcome ceremony will be held for the participants in Caimari.
