Today the Selva Town Hall was the scene of the presentation of our race. A new appointment in the cycling calendar of Mallorca with which the Selva City Council and the Consell de Mallorca, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme and the Tramuntana Mallorca Consortium, as well as the Government of the Balearic Islands, through the AETIB and the financing of the Recovery Plan and the ‘Next Generation EU’ Funds, want to boost the economy of the area and promote the natural area of the Serra as a privileged environment for the practice of an environmentally friendly sport such as cycling.
The event was attended by the mayor of Selva, Joan Rotger, the island councilor of Tourism of Mallorca, José Marcial Rodríguez, Isabel Munar, president of the Som Tramuntana Merchants Association, and Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting, a company that organize the test.
Joan Rotger, mayor of Selva, has explained that the name of the test “comes from combining, on the one hand, the name of the Salt de la Bella Dona and, on the other, the Serra de Tramuntana, hence “El Salt de Tramuntana” and that the main objective is to “promote our local commerce, our hospitality, gastronomic and commercial offering” in the low season. “That’s why it was scheduled for March, but the storm made us postpone it to this date, but the idea is that next year it will be celebrated in the month of March,” he added.
The island’s Minister of Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez, has shown his satisfaction with the celebration of the race and has assured that “the real challenge with this type of actions is to value the territorial identity of each of the 53 municipalities of the island ”. “Races like this are necessary tools to change, improve and strengthen the identity of this island,” he added.
Manuel Hernández, director of organization of the test, explained that the test offers “something different” to cycling fans, a demanding test, with the incentive of climbing the Coll de sa Batalla, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana and with all the security of a professional test because it is done on a circuit closed to traffic.” He has also pointed out that the race will be held in the month of March in 2024, as planned for this year with the aim of “attracting bicycle sports tourism.”
Online registration to participate in the test remains open on the official website https://saltdetramuntana.com/ until Thursday, September 21 at the price of 35 euros.
